Partner in Hope

Almost two months ago, I went to Memphis, Tennessee, for a work trip to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital. What I thought was going to be a routine, “Here’s why you do this at work two days a year,” trip, turned into a trip that completely changed my life.

Before you read any further, I want you to Meet Mabry (Click on those words to view video). Mabry is a three year old dancing princess who was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (blood cancer), and her story resonated with me. You will see why.

I could write all day about why you should support St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, but I’ll stick with a few major facts that I find vitally important to understanding the St Jude story:

  • They freely share their research with the world. All the treatments, all the protocols, all the studies, all the CURES…are shared with every single hospital, doctor, and patient on this planet. No matter where you are, St Jude is helping treat and defeat cancer in your area.
  • No family ever receives a bill for travel, treatment, housing, or food. Because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.
  • St Jude, in just over the 50 years it’s been open, has changed the childhood cancer survival rate from just 20% to over 80%. Many of the diseases St Jude treats has over a 90% survival rate.

The radio stations I work for are having our annual St Jude Radiothon tomorrow and Friday. Tune into our stations (94.5 & 106.9 FM) or stream live from our websites, and, and listen to the stories. Listen to the songs, and CALL IN (1-800-330-9727). You can also visit our event page at Become a Partner in Hope. YOU can be part of helping princesses like Mabry slay the dragon that is cancer.

“No child should die in the dawn of life.” Those words were spoken by Danny Thomas, the founder of St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and he says it best.
